Think about how often you get triggered.
It’s no fun at all.
It could be a specific family member, a friend or colleague, or even a situational pattern that continues to show up in your life. You find yourself reacting in a way that feels out of proportion to the event—or maybe you do feel justified for the way you feel and behave!
But…you’re starting to see that it’s not an isolated event. It keeps showing up.
And that’s why you’re reading this. You want to get to the root of the issue, but you’re not sure where it’s coming from. Are you upset about what’s happening at the moment, or does it come from a childhood wound?
Where your triggers really come from
Each month, I have a Live Coaching Call for all the members of The Carol Tuttle Healing Center. And we just had our October call a few days ago!
I taught how to safely express your emotions, why you get sick, and how your struggles get in the way of your individual creation process.
During the call, I answered many awesome questions from the live viewers. One, in particular, stood out to me. Liz is a Healing Center member who asks:
“When you’re bugged, when you’re triggered, is it something from your childhood…? Is every emotional trigger we feel as adults rooted in childhood?”
I love this question because it shows accountability. Instead of pointing the finger outward at the external “trigger,” it recognizes that the trigger is actually internal. And when you realize this, it empowers you to heal it. By taking ownership of the way you feel and react, you are able to re-write the story and create something new.
Signs you’re being triggered from a childhood wound
- When your reaction surpasses the event playing out
- When the emotion or reaction feels blinding or overwhelming
- When you can’t just “get over it.”
- When you find yourself in a loop. New person, same trigger.
Pay attention to that last one—it’s the most important.
You respond, you put out that signal, that vibration. By doing so, you’ve now projected a future scenario of that happening again. You’ve planted the seed for it to repeat itself.
It’s like you’re just playing out the same story at a different time with different players, and you’re getting the same response. That’s why they’re called patterns. They repeat themselves. They’re in our energy system.
That’s why it’s so important to clear out that energy. Think of it like clearing cookies from your computer. You need to “dump” the energy out of your body and your whole system so that you don’t have this response anymore.
How to clear out the childhood energy that’s triggering you
If you don’t deal with it as the lesson it’s meant to serve you, it will repeat.
WHat is the lesson you’re meant to learn? It could be simply healing it so you can create a new experience. I’ve noticed those new experiences are usually one of these:
- Learning to be present and not letting it trigger you.
- Using your voice.
- Setting a boundary.
But without clearing the energy, it will be very difficult to make changes and set a boundary, use your voice, or remain present! The energy always goes back to a time when you were younger. Maybe you were a teen, a young child, or even back to your birth.

How to know when you’ve healed and cleared the energy
It will happen easily. You’ll notice one day, “Huh, that doesn’t bother me anymore!” Or you’ll observe yourself responding in a new, different way. The trigger simply won’t matter to you anymore and you’ll be able to not engage. Your peace will be more important than your need to react.
Live in the present, free from childhood triggers.
