Ways To Get The Most Out Of Your Chakra Meditation

Are you getting the most out of your meditation? After a soothing session of meditating, it’s easy to be swept up by an invigorating and exhilarating feeling. Your chakras are in balance. You’re brimming with life force energy.

If you’re missing out on this vibrant sensation, read on to learn about the benefits of healing through chakra meditation.

An Overview of the Chakra System

Chakra meditation has been practiced since ancient times and is based upon the earliest traditions of Hindu and Tantric Buddhist practice. This form of meditation allows you to focus your chakra energy while blending your physical body with your spiritual mind for healing benefits.

There are seven main chakras and keeping them in balance is vitally important. Balanced chakras allow a human being to remain fully open to new experiences, relationships, and self-love. A chakra system in balance is sparkling with energy from the universe.

But when your chakras are imbalanced, you will experience negative effects throughout the body. Blocked chakras cloud your mind, twist your emotions, and make you feel physically unwell.

Certain traumatic experiences, particularly those encountered in childhood, can cause your chakras to fall out of balance. If, as an adult, you work diligently to unblock your chakras, you can clear out a huge amount of negative energy and restore a feeling of full and exuberant life force flow.

Chakra Meditation vs. Mindful Meditation

Chakra meditation is one of the most well-known and reliable ways of maintaining chakra balance.

Mindful meditation is being “in the moment.” It’s about awareness, which is a very good thing. However, mindful meditation is not necessarily about energy movement.

The chakra system of meditation, on the other hand, incorporates an understanding of the chakra energy centers throughout the body. Through chakra meditation, you can make progress on opening the chakras and restoring health and vitality.

For thousands of years, it has been helping people improve their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health. It is a solution that allows each person access to their own limitless potential.

Benefits of Chakra Meditation

The ultimate goal of is the alignment of the 7 chakras, within which each chakra is itself is also individually balanced. It is through this overall balance that you will gain the most benefit.

Have you ever mapped your chakra energy flow? With the help of a chakra energy map, you examine the path of energy flow through your body, noticing where blockages exist.

This will help you focus on the areas where you feel physically, mentally, or emotionally weak and expand in the areas where you feel strong. As you perform chakra meditation, you move and unblock energy in order to restore your natural state of harmony and well-being.

Things to Consider For Chakra Meditation

As you practice meditation, it’s important to have a grasp of the seven chakras, their locations, and their various forms of impact on your life. This includes each chakra’s bija mantra, or seed mantra, and its associated color that will be used during the meditation.

During meditation, you will chant the bija mantras in sequences as you move across your body’s chakras. Repetition of the bija mantras will help you fall into a deep meditative state. Here are some things to keep in mind to ensure you get the most out of your meditation.

Root Chakra

Location: Base of the spine, or kundalini, deep within the pelvis
Color: Red
Bija Mantra: LAM
Your root chakra, also called the first chakra or Muladhara in Sanskrit, helps you feel grounded in your world. It is associated with feelings of security and safety. This is the foundational chakra and must be in balance to support the rest of your body and spirit.

Sacral Chakra

Location: In your abdomen, two inches below your navel
Color: Orange
Bija Mantra: VAM
The sacral chakra, or Svadhisthana, is the home of your sexuality, pleasure, and ability to enjoy new experiences like food, music, and art. In order to have healthy relationships and openness to new experiences, this chakra must remain in balance.

Solar Plexus Chakra

Location: Upper abdomen, near the stomach
Color: Yellow
Bija Mantra: RAM
The solar plexus chakra, or Manipura, affects your self-esteem, confidence, and emotional stability. It allows you to feel bold and strong. When this chakra is blocked, you feel no  compassion for yourself or others.

Heart Chakra

Location: Just inside/above the heart
Color: Green
Bija Mantra: YAM
The Anahata is the chakra of love, joy, fulfillment, and inner peace. You are at risk of depression and life-threatening physical ailments when the heart chakra is blocked, so focus chakra healing on maintaining full energy flow through this chakra.

Throat Chakra

Location: Base of the throat
Color: Blue
Bija Mantra: HAM
Your throat chakra affects your ability to communicate and understand. A blockage here will prevent you from expressing yourself, connecting with people, or sharing truthful feelings. During chakra meditation, the HAM helps unblock the throat chakra and restore communication.

Third Eye Chakra

Location: Between the eyes
Color: Indigo
Bija Mantra: OM
The third eye chakra, or Ajna, allows you to interpret your world and understand life’s biggest secrets. A blocked third eye chakra makes you closed off and unwise in your decision-making.

Crown Chakra

Color: Violet
Bija Mantra: OM
The crown chakra, or Sahasrara, forms your spiritual connection to the divine and the universe through the top of the head. Keeping this chakra open is absolutely essential because without its full function, it is impossible to wisdom and chakra balance.

Steps to Doing Chakra Meditation Properly

Now that you understand the seven chakras, their purposes, and the questions associated with each, you can begin to experience the benefits of chakra balancing meditation. This is a rich, detailed healing process that should be viewed as a lifelong journey, not a single event.

For your first session, ensure you have time and space without interruption. It is best done in a quiet, peaceful, welcoming environment where you can feel totally at ease.

Set aside at least 30 minutes of time for this process per session. When you ready for chakra healing, follow these steps.

  1. Rest. Sit on the floor with a large, soft cushion under you.
  2. Bija. With your bija mantra in mind, inhale and exhale.
  3. Breathe. As you breathe normally, let your hands fall limp. Keep your spine straight and strong. Don’t put any stress on it.
  4. Attention. Go through all seven chakras and focus on each of these energy centers. Each needs its own attention in order to bring balance.
  5. Focus. Focus on each color for about a minute until you actually see that color of energy passing right through your body.
  6. Balance. Once you have addressed all of your chakras, imagine your energy system of balanced chakras. Feel the positive energy flow that comes from this balance.
  7. Review. Is there a chakra that still feels blocked? Pay attention to this blocked chakra and the mantra that will help you unlock it.
  8. Repeat. Continue to breathe evenly and deeply, repeating the mantra or mantras until your session is over.

Balancing Your Life Through Chakra Meditation

Chakra meditation practice brings each person a deeply personal and sublime sensation of balance, which leads to a life of natural harmony. Remember, chakra balance does not unfold from just one session of meditation.

Although you may feel a great relief from one session, you will need to perform meditation regularly to achieve maximum benefits. Some people opt to meditate on one particular chakra specifically during each session, and some focus on unlocking all seven chakras during each session.

Either approach is perfectly acceptable, so choose the option that suits you best. Over time, with regular meditation, you will begin to feel reinvigorated. You will gain greater insight than ever before into yourself, your relationships, and your place in the universe.
